ICE Qatar Learned Event - Getting the best out of BIM in construction

Overview

Building Information Management (BIM) is once more a hot topic in the construction industry after the UK Government’s recent Mandate of April 2016. Its aim to achieve a shift towards fully collaborative 3D BIM and electronic delivery of all project information, documentation and data has provided a great push for the whole BIM industry worldwide. Also here in Qatar, many employers are now mandating BIM and achieving considerable steps towards digitisation of their current projects.

HOCHTIEF ViCon is one of the leading BIM consultants working in the region since 2009 and driving BIM implementation in the Qatari market. This presentation will give an overview of the current status of BIM in Qatar covering requirements, utilisation on real live projects, challenges, lessons learnt, working groups and established events.

About the Speaker

Dr. Racha Chahrour holds a Masters and a PhD degree in Civil Engineering from Kassel University in Germany. She joined HOCHTIEF Construction AG in 2008 as Planning & Logistic Engineer. Since 2011 she has worked for HOCHTIEF ViCon as a BIM Manager and has successfully led projects in Germany and Qatar. She has managed BIM on Doha Metro Projects and the Lusail City Development as a BIM project manager.

She has also been involved in a 3 year research programme carried out by Qatar University, Teesside University and HOCHTIEF ViCon with funding from Qatar Foundation to develop BIM Protocols for Qatar.
